"Homage
to a Drama Queen" is the third chapter in a series of paintings
based on three generations of southern women. I use self portraits
as
parody, as a way to critique the objectification of women. In
keeping
with the intimacy of the self portrait, the paintings are small
and
framed in free form wood. The work is direct and unencumbered
by the
strictures of academia, which keeps it idiosyncratic, passionate
and
deeply alive.
