"Cindi Perry"

Cindi PerryThis painting is a portrait of my dear friend Cindi Perry. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. After surgery and follow-ups, five years later the cancer returned. It had moved into the bone and she was diagnosed as stage four. (There is no stage five.)

She has been fighting for her life ever since. Cindi has five children and is one of the strongest women I have ever known. Her spirit is so beautiful that I was driven to create this painting/assemblage in her honor. She appears beautiful and healthy, and is surrounded with words and symbols that represent her life and spirit.

Cindi Perry - Detail

Each word/symbol is different, with sequins, pearls, rhinestones, pink ribbon and beads. The words extend off the canvas at all four corners. Large metal shavings surround the painting, giving it the feeling of fireworks or confetti...a celebration. She wears a pink ribbon from a fund raiser in her honor. A mustard seed pendant from my childhood is included in the piece..."if ye have the faith of a mustard seed, all things are possible unto you".

The pink ribbon symbol for breast cancer appears throughout the painting , as does an image of an angel I designed in her honor that was reproduced into jewelry and ornaments. The culmination of the piece was when I gave it to Cindi with a small gathering of family and friends. Everyone was invited to place pink ribbons on the piece. Lacey, her youngest and only girl, made a love chain. Then the piece was finished.
