Wayward debutantes are in abundance at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown.

"Abundance," an exhibition of new paintings by Frederick County resident Cynthia Fraula-Hahn, is on display in the atrium of LFCC's Middletown campus through April 15.

"Debutantes Gone Wrong" is a new series that Fraula-Hahn has included in a 30-painting exhibit titled "Abundance".

"(Debutantes Gone Wrong) has a sense of humor; that's the point," said Fraula-Hahn, who has been painting more than 20 years and earned a master's degree in fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1981.

"It's an abundance of things, different forms of art," LFCC public relations assistant Paula Cooper said. "This is a really diverse collection of her work, and her colors are really vibrant."

The works range from assembled pieces using artifacts, honoring family members of past generations, paintings inspired by heirloom photographs, and saturated canvases representing her own past.

Part of Fraula-Hahn's inspiration comes from looking at old family portraits and old Apple Blossom Festival photos, which were used in an exhibition last November.

The paintings also incorporate some influences, such as color and design, that she garnered from a recent trip to Spain.

Fraula-Hahn, who serves on the LFCC's Educational Foundation Board, will donate 30 percent of her sales from the show to the college's Community Cultural Center project.

A special artist's reception, with live blues jazz music and refreshments will be held from 5-8 p.m. March 30. Reservations for the reception may be made by calling 868-7160, or visiting the website at http://www.otherart.com.

The exhibit is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.
